Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've never kayaked, do you take beginners?
A: The majority of people we take out have little or no experience.
We give a lesson and have a short practice session on the water. Our
kayaks are very stable.
Q: What can I expect for weather?
A: Perhaps you've heard the expression that if you don't like the
weather, wait a minute. Summer weather in Maine can vary from 50 to
90 F (days) and 50's and 60's (nights). Temperatures near the
coast tend to be cooler than inland and can change rapidly.
Q: What is the normal water temperature.
A: Salt water temps range from high 40's to high 50's. Lake water
ranges from high 30's at ice out to the 70's in the summer months.
Q: Will I see wildlife?
A: We generally see a variety of wildlife on our excursions. Salt
water trips may find eagles, osprey, seals, cormorants, loons,
porpoise, and other sea life. Starfish, sand dollars, sea urchin and scallops are among the shorelines.
On fresh water paddles we may see loons, eagles, osprey, muskrat,
beaver, and moose - some depends on the time of paddle.
It is possible to see many of the above on hikes- also flowers,
trees, butterflies, when they are in season.
